Monaco Music Monday

Holding myself accountable.

I bought a 20-dollar microphone at Best Buy and spent the entire day playing with recording software.  [free downloads]

I'm hoping to record a new song every week and post it in here -- but given how my schedule (and lack of discipline) has been lately, I'll be lucky to get one done every month.

I figure, if I post it, I'm responsible for following through.

It should load automatically when you open my journal.  Depending on the speed of your connection, it could load anytime between now and never.  If you want to move the process along, try this:  click here to listen to I'm With You

If you're avoiding my journal because of the auto-playing music, just click esc on your keyboard and silence you shall hear.

Otherwise, feel free to sing along.

I'm With You - lyrics and music by Trish Monaco (2004)

there comes a time when I get tired
nothing in this world seems to ease my troubled mind
crawling walking running so far
I can't see the past behind me
turn around in one split moment
I believe

oooh
I'm with you
oooh
I'm with you

I look around and I think
oh my god, don't you know, don't you know, can't you see
nothing more you need to be
nothing less to set you free
beauty's in the deep
(one) step closer turn around
you're right in front of me

oooh
I'm with you
oooh
I'm with you

now and then I wish my tears away
holding back the pain of yesterday
I remember

oooh
I'm with you
oooh
I'm with you

I can't get the old dialup to connect fast enough for the sound, but the words are beautiful, darlin'!

(sorry I haven't been around in SO long. It's been chaos.)

Love you!

This is a brilliant idea!  I'm going to download the song when I get home, so I can load it into I-Tunes and my I-Pod - with the singer/songwriter's permission, of course!

(I'd also like to recommend that you establish a Pay Pal account so people like me can pay you for the music we download - certainly I would, as would, I suspect, most of your readers.)

One minor quibble, however....I personally do not like the idea of websites loading music when I read them - in my opinion, the website is thereby co-opting my bandwidth and my speakers.  And it will interfere with music or other sound that I might already be listening to, and the only way to get back to what I was listening to is to leave your website - which is not why I came to visit in the first place!

You've already left a link to listen to the music - that should be enough for most readers, and gives the reader the opportunity to listen at his/her leisure.  That's my suggestion - certainly I am not one to tell you how to run your own journal!  And I am not trying to be impertinent!  Just offering up a small suggestion that you might want to consider....

Anyway, I'll take a longer listen later today, and I look forward to it.  Even though I don't comment here often, I'm a daily visitor, and really enjoy your entries.  i've been looking forward to the music too - now we get one every week (or so) and I'm definitely one reader/listener who would like an opportunity to pay for the priviledge.

Thanks for the supportive comments folks.  I'm looking forward to learning more and getting more of these demo tracks down.  It's fun - and inspiring.

Gigi - Don't worry if you can't hear it on your computer.  You know I will force-feed it to you soon. ;)

John - nice to hear from you!  I totally agree with you about embedded music.  That's why I mentioned hitting escape before it has a chance to load.  But I'm about to change my sidebars again.  I will put links to each song over there.  I'll removed the auto-play when I do that.

I do have a PayPal account - but it's on the music/listen page of my website.  It's a good idea to put that up too.  I'll add it to the sidebar.  Great thoughts.  I appreciate that.

And, lastly, YES, by all means, download my music and play it everywhere you go! ;)  I'm honored to know you want it on your iPod.  There are three other songs on my website (trishmonaco.com) you can download as well.

Wow! I'm impressed! A twenty dollar mic and free downloaded software did that - overlay of voice tracks and the fades. Awesome! I will now be looking forward to Mondays. :-) ---Robbie

Hello again!  i saw the Pay Pal page on your other website.  It seems it is limited to the seven dollar contribution.  That's cool by me.....but since I'm in a "suggesting mood" might I suggest that you simply make it, like, a buck a song, and let people pay/download what they want?

Also, some people might be willing to pay more than a buck a song - I've done that myself for other indie artists with music I like.  (Think Jenny Bruce at http://www.jennybruce.com for example.)

I'll shut up now....after all, it *is* your website/journal/music!

YAY! New reason to wake up on Mondays! You have no idea how much your music excites me! Keep it comin~!
I'm so excited I can hardly stand waiting for the dial up to buffer the song in the media player... I'm currently buffering 3%... I'm busting at the seams here...biting the nails...doing the laundry...vaccuming the carpet...re-reading all 11 of the Stephanie Plum novels...okay, I'm now buffering at 26%...it's comin, it's comin! Hold tight.
