Fire in the Hole

This is how the sky looks around my apartment.  I drove right into it while trying to return doggies to their homes.

Obviously I had to find alternate routes.

This is one of my alternate routes.  If it's not a fire, it's a flood.

The fire is in a furniture store at Venice and Overland.  The flood is from the fire hydrants and hoses used to extinguish the fire.

As far as we know, no one was injured.  But that's as of an hour ago.  Yes, I feel bad for the furniture store owners and surrounding businesses who may have been affected.  But most selfishly, I feel bad for me.  My entire apartment is filled with the smell of burning chemicals.  My throat is dry and sore.  And I'm coughing up a storm.

I'm about to go to Cheryl's for a while.  No sense in breathing in smoky air when I can be breathing fresh healthy smog in Santa Monica.  Ahhh...I love L.A.

You don't want to be breathing that smoke.  That furniture is covered in so many nasty chemicals.  Good luck down there.  Don't let anything happen to that Gorgeous voice.  Rock on Rock Star.

I'm sorry, but thats kind of funny from a 'just my luck' standpoint (the alternate routes). Speaking of furniture, I hope yours isnt ruined by the smell--smoke and upholstery dont mix well. Mmmmm smog. Enjoy your stay with Cheryl!

My sister was down that way and she was telling me about it. She was mad because she had just washed her car and she had to go through the water. LOL Jesse

Hey, at least it's not raining ASH like it was last fall (I think that's the right time frame) when I was there and 5 different fires had been purposely set in various areas.  I came down from Barstow right after they had tried to use I15 as a fire break...which worked great (yeah right) because the wind is never blowing hard enough in that area to move a fire right on across the interstate (again, yeah right!).  I had to sit outside for 2 hours down in Ontario and there was so much ash in the air that we had to keep brushing ourselves off...ugh.

So my question is:  Who keeps trying to burn up Southern Cal?!  Stop it already!

LOL...hope they get that thing put out soon so you can go back to your place and still be able to breathe!

Ach!  I hope the store owners carried insurance!  Looks like a big'un!  Could you borrow a humidifier, maybe?  Would that help with the coughing and wheezing?

Say Hi to Cheryl for me!!!  :D

I about had a heart attack when I saw this picture. Fires always scare me. (Now, I'm thinking of when I found out about Mary's poor house. :-( ) Grateful that this was only an inconvenience for you and not a personal disaster. Take care of the throat and voice! Those pipes still have a few more songs to bang out. Sheesh, I'm sounding like a drill instructor around here. Ug! :-) ---Robbie

Ugh.  I know that horrid, acrid smell; last year the patio was covered in thick, white ash from the foothill fires.  You never realize how truly awful it is till you experience it first-hand. Glad that everyone's all right.

You're too cute; "...I can be breathing fresh healthy smog in Santa Monica.  Ahhh...I love L.A...."   So true!   :)
