Threading vs. Waxing

Let's see...am I caught up?

Did I mention my most recent waxing experience?  I don't think so.  It was horrendous.  Just a week ago, I got my full legs and bikini waxed (like usual).  My underarms too.  That wasn't as painful as usual.  Probably because a lot of my hair stayed put.  For my face, I asked for threading - as suggested by one woman over a month ago when I was last in for waxing.  Unfortunately, she wasn't working the day I went to have it done.

Let me tell you right now ... threading HURTS ... way more than waxing!  To give you an idea...she tried to yank all the hair off my entire face with dental floss.  I had no idea I had facial hair in some of these torturous places.  Imagine a long thin rubber band.  Hold and stretch it using both hands.  Twist it as tight as it will go.  Now stretch it back like a slingshot and put pins and needles in it.  Imagine there are a hundred of you with the same pin-infested rubber-band slingshot.  Take aim directly at your face.  Shoot.  Again.  And again.  And again.

I wanted her to stop and give me a numbing agent.  That wasn't even the worst of it.  She said she needed to wax my lip and eyebrows because threading them would be more painful.  I didn't believe her - and I still don't.

I reminded her of my skin's sensitivity.  I rarely get my face waxed anymore because my skin usually burns.  She did a good job of taking extra care of me one time before.  But I don't think it really registered just how sensitive my skin is.  This was the worst I'd ever burned.  Not only was my upper lip numb for the entire week, but I had burn-blisters around my mouth and surrounding my eyebrows.

Within hours, the areas of my face that were threaded began to bubble up with irritation.  So, basically there was not one part of my face that was blister-free all week!

It was so bad, my facialist refused to touch my skin until it 'calms down'.  She suggested ice-cold water and Neosporin for a week.  Nothing else.  No makeup.  No sunscreen.  No lotion.  Nada. Nothing. Zip. Zilch.

Ah yes, a good week to start flirting.

You go you power blogger you! Whew!!! It's good to see you back in way more than good shape..fulll of energy and blogging away! I love the pictures of you girls on the rings!!  And ouch the threading makes my eyes hurt just reading about it.   One of my friends from India told me that she has her facial hair threaded. I'd never heard of it before meeting her a couple of years ago.   I had thought I might want to give it a try. Obviously I hadn't...and actually after reading your entry, I doubt that I ever will.

Try wacking the few hairs you have off on a daily basis in shower the old fashioned way, razors baby razors.

Okay, so waxing and threading? I have no idea what the process is, but it all sounds painful.

As to dating and flirting? Via the internet only, is my guess. (nudge nudge wink wink)

Ouch on the threading!!  Have incredibly sensitive skin here too & a bad experience at the hairdressers... Got my hair colored last week, the girl left the chemicals and me under the dryer too long, burnt me up along my scalp line and some hair broke off.  Finding a new place next time.  Hoping your face clears & heals soon, hey, you flirting with THAT cute boy? lol...

I never heard of threading ... sounds so painful! I wax my eyebrows and generally I've never had a problem with the burning you talk about.  I did have it burn once when I went to a new woman and I had sworn at that time I'd never get them waxed again.  Well, 2 weeks later I did go back ... to my regular lady.

LOL  I suddenly feel sooooo blessed to be fairly hairless on my face.  I pluck my eyebrows [and they're not too wild anyway] and my upper-lip, so far, has been kind to stay naked.  Ahhh, the joys of being [basically] blonde.  As I get older, the hair on my legs and underarms is thinning too.  My mother has a thyroid issue that causes ALL her hair to be super-thin or non-existent.  She never has to shave - not even "down there".  Totally bald.  I'm not sure if I wanna go that far, but I sure am glad that I'll never have to consider the prospect of going into a salon and yelling at the clerk, "Wax me up, baby!"  LOL

Hope your face "calms down" soon.  Eeek.  :(

LOL.  oooooh freee.  What women do to just to look good.  Men should kiss our feet and throw rose petals for us to walk on.  Of course, that might get irritating... :p

Yiiiiikes! My aesthetician was trying to talk me into threading. I finally told her that it's bad enough I have hot wax poured on and then ripped off my face, I don't think I could take all those threading yanks.

I felt your pain here http://journals.aol.com/pollysci/randomness/entries/587

After reading this, let me assure you that I'd rather eat dirt than have a thread stretched across THIS face. People will just have to LIKE me and my hairy chin!

I have never had my whole face done. Ouch. I do get my brows and lip done though. And, yeah, from time to time I get an irritated patch that appears. My skin is just too sensitive. However, I had someone do the thread thing on my brows once. I could barely feel it. But, I've been plucking my brows for quite some time so I am used to the pain. I don't like threading though because it doesn't seem to be as thorough and it seems to take longer. :-) ---Robbie
