Wednesday Night Check-In

Hello fellow AOL-J'ers.  Forgive my silence.  I've been incredibly busy. And every time I try to update my journal, I get [pleasantly] interrupted by a phone call or an IM or an email or Hunny or my own random thoughts.

I'm having a great week so far.  I don't want to spoil anything but there seems to be a positive shift in my dogwalking business.  Being self-employed can be unpredictable so please keep the candles and prayers coming.  But it does look like I might be able to buy a new pair of shoes soon.  ::fingers crossed::

Music Mondays have been put on hold.  I'm taking a few weeks to get the last bunch of songs well-rehearsed. Keith [drummer-boy] and I are scoping out bass payers. The goal is for all of us to go into the studio one Saturday in May and play all songs - start to finish.  I'll keep you posted.

I saw my doctor this week.  You know how I feel about western medicine [and worse, insurance companies] but I left there feeling really good.  I love my doctor.  I chose her as my primary physician because she was on-call when I first got my ear checked two years ago.  I liked her then and still like her now.  And she remembers me.  She's respectful of my beliefs - in fact, she honors the holistic approach.  The best of both worlds.

Since I saw my doctor, I had to get weighed.  Not too bad but it's a few pounds more than I'm comfortable with.  So, with this new bit of information, I've decided to be a little more strict about my health.  I eat fairly well, but I need to learn more about healthy vegetarian meals.  I'm still young but my body is changing, right before my eyes.  I want to keep up with it.  What I need is someone to say, "This is your meal plan. This is your exercise routine. This is your daily schedule. Take these vitamins. Go to bed at this time.  Read this book. Use these products."

There are just some things I never learned growing up.  For instance, I washed my face and shaved my legs with Dial soap till just a few years ago.  I thought green beans were born in a can.  And I don't even own a single shade of eye shadow because I don't know how to use it.  So I'm calling on friends who are experts in each area.  Sort of like Queer Eye - but for ME.  I'm open to suggestions!

There's earthquake talk around here lately.  I don't want to give it any more power than it deserves but it's a good reminder to have a bag packed.  I'm so disorganized.  Nothing is in the same place.  Keys, shoes and phone are all in three different areas of the apartment.  I keep forgetting an earthquake is something we just can't predict - like weather or tides.  Strangely, as I was writing about this, I heard a bang and felt the apartment shake...a pre-quake perhaps?

Reminds me of ten years ago.  I was at the kitchen table with a roommate.  I had never felt an earthquake before.  I thought I felt the table move but couldn't be sure.  I asked her if I would know when an earthquake hits.  The next morning, 4:31AM, the Northridge earthquake knocked us senseless!  I believe the kitchen table shake was a pre-quake.  Maybe I should pack that bag tonight.

I was in California when a dozey of an earthquake hit in 1989?  I think it was '89.  anyway...I was in one in Okinawa Japan, as well one real good one when I was preganant with my last child here in Washington.  I should be used to them...but, you can't get used to natural disasters.  So, anyway...be safe...keep that bag packed....plan where to go and where to be!   <---see, now you got me all worried. :P
you know...your natural girl.  I think you should stick with natural colors. Like fall colors.  or nothing at all....as in make up...lol.

also...good luck with your music mondays and I am VERY glad you have a doctor you can trust, feel comfortable with, and who respects your views on holistic medicine.  :) *hugs

Freee,
You are forgiven, especially for having a great week. 8-)

You need make up? You don't look outstanding as it is? I am so jealous of your hair from the start with and then your genuine good looks are well, um, I'd like to be your housemate shall we say. Where can I send my application?

I use a beard trimmer if I let it get long and then a cast off mens electric to shave my legs. That is all I'm saying.

::::raising hand - jumping up and down:::: I'll do your makeup. I love painting faces. :-)

And, yeah you're right we do need to prepare for the earthquake thing. I am in no way, shape or form prepared. They say that there is a 50% chance of a MAJOR quake happening this year. Eeekk. If it happens..........Uggg. I just can't think about it right now.

Of course green beans are born in a can . . . . aren't they??  Tell me they are!!  Don't shatter the dream!!  My advice on your meal and excercise plan . . . . eat what you want, and burn more calories than you consume.  It's as easy as that.  You Rock  . . . Rock Star.

OMGGGGGGGGGG, you're number #1 on the Editors list!  :::Stealing iruns mantra:::"You rock, Rock Star!"   Fingers & toes crossed that you can buy those new shoes & can't wait to hear the rest of the CD.   I can't remember the last time I owned eye shadow either, actually the only thing I ever routinely put on, is a bit of blush on the cheeks.  Other than that, usually au naturale.  Hey, guess we're just natural beauties Freee....lol. Yikes, on the earthquake-talk.  Guess I won't whine about NE weather anymore : )

Yikes!  I've never felt an earthquake either...but Washington does occasionally have one, from what I understand.  The last one occured just a few weeks before I moved here.  Scary stuff.

As for products...all the stuff I used to use is so expensive.  Oh, how I miss the single life sometimes.  LOL  I used to use Christian Dior make-up (very pricey); Bumble and Bumble hair products (also very pricey); and I'd buy a new pair of shoes once a week.  I even had pedicures twice a month, got my nails done once a week, and had my hair cut and colored once a month.  I must have been stunning during those years.  LOL  Now...I buy over the counter stuff because I'm a mommy!  And it's only going to get worse.  <grin>

By the way, I've left comments all the way back to your reality TV entry.  God, I'm so far behind!  Love you!

Congratulations on being the Editors #1 pick!  I'm happy that your business is on the upswing.  I'll let the other gentle readers give you some tips as I, like you, continue to learn things everyday that I probably should have known all along.  I think having a bag packed "just in case" is a good idea.  I've never experienced an earthquake, but I'm sure just the thought of one "maybe" happening would freak me out just a little bit.  Again, congrats!  I love seeing people I've come to read up there.

I love this entry- so true for many of us. We have an idea about what we have to do to balance our heart, soul, body and mind but it's putting it all together and being consistant that is the problem.
    Not easy to choose optimum plant based diet*50% raw living foods and sprouts for enzymes*cleanse & detox regulary*whole grain*fresh fruit*fresh vegies*legumes*raw nuts*fresh juice including the green ones*limit dairy*get enough good fats*avoid chemicals*drink enough water*get some sun*avoid refined foods*neturalize body acid*eliminate soft drinks*meditate regulary*practice Hatha Yoga*slow down and release stress*balance hormones*stretch more*exercise daily*aerobic & weight bearing*sleep enough*enjoy nature*laugh often*live with intrity*be positive and greatful*visualize our goals*sweat, sweat, sweat*etc... etc... etc...
Maybe instead of requesting "Queer eye-but for me", you could ask for "Holistic eye for Free Peace" and we could all tell each other what to do and when to do it so we can still have time to live our lives and journal.

I'm glad it's been such a great week for you!! That's always a good thing. Eek about the earthquakes though!! We just learned about those in Geography. Luckily, I don't live in a state that would ever have earthquakes. Instead, I live in tornado territory! Just as fun I guess, though I've never experienced a tornado....

Hope your week continues to be great and the greatness follows into the weekend!!

You must live on the West Coast. We have a place in Santa Barbara and I get there several times a year. I love it there. Ohio can be grey and cold.

Your journal is fun to read. Keep writing.

I'm back again. (I went straight to the Editor's Top 5 list this morning to see who made it, and I was so excited to leave a comment here that I forgot to read the entry!) :-)

That earthquate stuff is unnerving. Pack a bag just in case. In the meantime, I'm glad to hear that things are picking up with the dog walking. Yay!

I am glad that you are having a good week! Congrats that the dr appt went well, I too am on that journey of being a few lbs over what I like:) Dont start using eye shadow!! All of makeup products are addictive and you feel like you dont look right without it so like smoking dont start!! lol I know about what you mean about green beans in a can, I thought that food only came with a drive thru window..lol so I am trying to get out of that myself.

i've never experienced an earthquake.  i can only imagine how scary it must be.  living in pennsylvania the scariest thing we've encountered is an occasional tornado, which i admit is very terrifying.  makes you feel so completely helpless.  one time a twister touched down just down the road from me.  i remember being in the only room that didn't have a window with my son (who was little then) and being huddled under the table for protection.  (couldn't go down to our basement because it was above ground and had windows and a door)  Regardless, hope the earthquake misses your area.  thinking of you....

I experienced the Whittier earthquake back in 1986 was it? My first earthquake as well. Rattled my senses. Enjoy reading your board. May your battle with cancer be victorious. My dog Logan was recently diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma and we (the vet and I) started her chemo regiment last Friday. So far so good, the lumps have diminished considerably. Keeping my fingers crossed. Anyhow, plan on peeking in again. Peace.

I remember my first earthquake; I was sitting on the couch in the living room when suddenly there was a low rumble, I felt the floor shifting under my feet and the light fixtures and doors started swinging.  I was absolutely stunned ~ my roommates took one look at me and started laughing hysterically.  Good times...
You know, I love doing makeup, and am pretty good at it if I do say so myself.  You have such a lovely natural look I wouldn't do too much...it looks like a soft taupe or maybe a creamy beige over the entire eye area, with a darker brown or any earth tone on the lid itself to bring out the light of your eyes... :)

I cringed re that statement about using Dial soap when shaving, eeek.  Hopefully you don't anymore!

I'm an earthquake veteran, coming from the old country where it's a regular occurence, but I'm still not used to them.  That Northridge one was a doozy.  I was gonna go on a trip to Carmel by myself.  My mother and brother were so spooked and afraid of aftershocks they went with me!
